FAQs
There’s no such thing as a silly question. While you are an expert in whatever it is you do, I don’t expect everyone to know all things copy. So, let’s run through some frequently asked questions.
-
My prices vary for each project. For example:
I often use set prices for SEO blog posts and thought-leadership articles, and these will vary depending on the length of each blog, the complexity of the topic, the time in which the item(s) have to be delivered, and the stages of work required (research, copywriting, copyediting, sanity checks, live-proofing, etc).
For some clients with adhoc UI and UX copy fixes, I work on an hourly rate within a set project price; however, this is usually after a large project has been completed and there is an established relationship.
I try to avoid setting day rates, hourly rates, or price-per-word rates, as this detracts from the output and focuses on the input.
The process of content writing (and content creation in general) can vary hugely; two blog pieces of the same length, on the same topic, for the same audience, will always take different amounts of time. It’s just the nature of the beast.
If you’d like an estimate for a project, start by telling me your goals and parameters. We can discuss your needs, and then I can provide you with an overview of costs, processes, and timelines.

As I work for myself, I am always available to take on new projects.
I can usually squeeze in pretty much every request I get because I’ve learnt how to effectively block out my week and get things done in the time allocated.
I work with lots of teams but am not tied to any particular one. That being said, I have protected time for my long-term and existing clients, so I’m not always available for super-urgent-last-minute-tasks. But, it’s definitely worth pinging me a message to find out if I can help you out, because deadlines do shift and things can change.

I have a typical 9-5 work week, meaning that’s the best time to grab hold of me via phone or email. Many of my clients are in different time zones, so it’s not uncommon for me to hop on a quick sync call at 6pm or be on my emails to confirm a new task earlier than 9am.
That being said, when you send me a message, please allow me a day or two to come back to you.

I'm happy to discuss your project via email, phone, or video call (whichever suits you). It can be nice to meet my clients via video call; however, this isn’t a necessity, and I’ve worked with some clients for years just over email contact.
I’ll need to find out a few things about your brand, your content strategy, your goals, target audiences, unique offering, etc. (you can get started on this by completing the copy brief template), and then we can discuss an initial copy test-run or pilot project. This can either be paid or unpaid, depending on what works for us best.

I work with small-team startups still finding their feet all the way through to established businesses with over 40,000 employees worldwide.
I’ve worked for fintech businesses and plenty of SaaS organisations and agencies. I’m comfortable writing about topics on everything from construction and crypto to content creation tools and consumer insurance products.
I can spin my style for B2B audiences, B2C audiences, and B2B2C audiences, plus I’m able to write technical copy, hone an investor pitch, and turn up the brand voice for an engaging social media campaign.

Yes, as long as you’ve carved out a reasonable budget for your copywriting goals, and aren’t expecting to shoot to the top of the SERPs, or go viral on TikTok, or get 100,000 newsletter subscribers in a month. I’m a content writing specialist, not an advertising agency, plus I do content generation that’s all about the long game. I like to build evergreen copy, establish valuable and trust-filled relationships with email newsletters, and grow website integrity over several months. If you don’t want to invest in that, then I think you may need a different service to what I offer.

I don’t have any particular areas that are my specialities, and I don’t rule out any sectors either.

Nope, everything I write is all mine and no one else’s.
-
The default answer is always no.
All my work is written by my human hands and brain unless clients request AI content (and you can read more about how I use AI with written content creation here).
I don’t use AI to covertly write content; it’s joyless, and the output is often quite low-grade. I’m happy to run my work through AI detectors and what not - makes no difference to me!

In my experience, the design should come first, either in a wireframe or in more progressed form with brand assets, etc.
I say this for two reasons: 1) in start-ups, often founders will have a better idea of how they want things to look like rather than read like (with the exception of an H1 or a snazzy tagline), and 2) the design should really set some ground rules on UI and UX copy (and this is something that I can help with, but it’s not actually writing copy, it’s writing copy rules).
That being said, if you are completely stumped for design and just need to pin down your main copy, I can work with that, too.
We will need to have some good lines of communication open to make sure all parties (copy, design, founder, marketing, product team & co) marry up on the same page sooner rather than later.

Copywriters persuade, copyeditors refine, content writers inform, and bloggers share personal (or paid) insights.
All these roles have huge overlaps in skills and responsibilities, but each does a distinctly different thing.
As a copywriter, I write persuasive content that, at its very core, aims to sell a product or service. I write ad copy specifically for digital spaces like websites and social media. Some copywriters do copy for radio, TV, posters, and other mediums.
As a copyeditor, I work to review and refine existing content. This means checking that the tone and style adhere to the brand guidelines and that the copy satisfies readability and coherence checks. Often I’ll rewrite parts of the text to improve clarity, structure, or flow. The end goal here will be to help the text do what it’s designed to do: inform, educate, convert, sell, etc.
As a web content writer, I write informative and engaging articles for websites, blogs, and other digital platforms. This includes writing various different types of pages for websites, such as homepages, product pages, pricing pages, and landing pages. This content must hold its value and follow SEO best practices.
Bloggers write for their own platforms and share their expertise, experiences, or reviews of products and services. Bloggers usually write for their own audience and often monetise their blog by promoting products or services directly and indirectly. I am not really a blogger; however, I can help with generating blog content for various audiences.
Lastly, it’s worth mentioning that I fall within the category of content creator, but this category is very broad and encompasses various forms of media production, including writing, video creation, podcasting, and social media content. Often, content creators will specialise in multiple formats, so as a pure copywriter, I don’t often refer to myself as a content creator in this context.

Yep! I work with US clients and I fall outside of IR35.
I am self-employed and have my own business, plus I work from home in the UK.

When we start working together, we’ll be able to assess quite quickly if we are a suitable fit. We can do this by you having a look at my writing style applied to your brand and project, with a few pilot tasks to get us started. We can also discuss what our work processes will look like, and I will always be available to take onboard feedback and ensure you’re happy with how projects are going.
Ultimately, I want you to be 100% happy with the work I deliver and our working relationship, so if something isn’t quite right, please let me know as soon as possible so we can put it right.

If we are talking about writing content to climb search engine rankings, this can take months. If we are talking about fixing UI and UX copy to improve customer experiences, reduce churn, or improve CTRs, this can take days to weeks, depending on the severity of the fix.
When we first discuss your project, we can talk about the results you’re aiming for and when we’re likely to first see improvements and changes. Some things also require A/B testing (newsletter campaigns, social media video ads, landing pages, UI copy), which I can help with too.
